Sorry, that's a non-argument because our wins in those seasons were usually as big underdog and mostly luck. We'd defend for 90 minutes and sneak a goal. We never looked likely to win the league because we simply weren't good enough.

Our current squad can attack/threaten any team. We've been comfortable against the smaller teams for the last 2 seasons. We should have drawn, or even beaten, Chelsea, Bolton and Everton away, but we're still on course to match or even beat the 80+ points we got last year.

      Totally agree.

And that **** Alex Ferguson will probably get knighted again if he wins it.

Arsenal - one fortunate FA Cup win aside - haven't won anything in the past few years, so how are they "competing"? A distant fourth last year and still fourth this year

CL final as well. I still think they're the best footballing side in the country on their day.

However, they seem to struggle against poor teams.... especially away.... so probably not good enough to win the league according to DJS's theory.

Which is basically what i was saying.

But even our current squad hasnt proven capable yet, and it wont do, until it actually delivers.

They also won the double twice under Wenger. You cant win EVERY year, they're obviously in transition now.

But over a period of time, they've spent less than us and won far more.

I'm sorry disco mate, but you dont become good enough by just saying so. The proof of the pudding...

We havent PROVEN ourselves capable for 17 years.

Nothing compares to my hatred of the Mancs. I would sooner watch Chelsea win 4 in a row than the Mancs winning 1.

I don`t have any problems with Slur getting honours. What he`s done with the Scum is great piece of work, and he deserves credit for that. I still "hate" them/him, but credit where credit is due.

That Shankly and Paisley didn`t get anything is another matter.

I dont care either way where 'honours' like that are concerned. Give me footballing honours any day of the week.

DJS - I don't think your definition of 'capable' is particularly sensible or realistic! You're basically saying that they aren't capable until they actually win it! (which by extension means that the current Arsenal side aren't capable at present.)

I realise it's a fairly arbirtrary definition, but I prefer to observe that I now expect us to steam roll every team we come up against other than the other big 4 teams. Gone are the days that I worry about an away trip to Watford - we just have too much for them.

It's a subtle change in psychology, but surely you've noticed the same change?

For me, that's the mark of a team that can win the Premiership.

The fact is we're not beating the other top teams often enough, and it's that which will (probably) prevent us from winning the league this year.

However, we clearly can beat every team, so I'm not sure it's fair to say that we couldn't win the title with this squad (probably not this year, but may be next).

In all fairness disco, if we had beaten Sheffield, Middlesboro, Portsmouth and Blackburn x 2 we would be level at the top despite losing away to the other top three.

All it takes is an injury to Ronaldo, Ferdinand or Neville and we will have a chance to win the league.

Dream on rat face. Even if they do get it this season (which they probably will), I can't see how we can fail to challenge next season for the 4th time in a row. The team is looking better now and, bar a few problem areas, I think we have the team and, just as importantly, the management and staff to wipe that ****-eating grin of SuperManc's kipper.
